It was December 2001, and a PC gamer (until then) was about to experience a life-changing slice of fortune. I remember the first time I played Grand Theft Auto III. Belonging, as I do, to the former community, it's only right for me to jump right in with those words to which I'd alluded at the very top. Of course, amidst all this, there'll be numerous Liberty City (not to mention Vice City and San Andreas) veterans returning to the scene of the crime, alongside several people for whom gaming began in the HD generation, and have consequently yet to discover the trilogy that started it all. "I remember the first time I played Grand Theft Auto III" are words you're going to hear a lot from now until the time Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition releases at some point next year, inevitably gets banned in a few markets ( Australia, most likely but it wouldn't be too surprising to see India attempt to upstage its Quad partner in this regard), is subject to coruscating attacks from the SJW community at large, and goes on to become the top-selling game of 2022.
